Description
Handwritten manuscript notes by André Breton, dating from mid-March 1941.
Write to... Skira, Paulhan, Denoël, Péret, Mabille, Paalen, Matta, Francis, Tanguy, Seligmann, Ubac, and a few others. Do the shopping, sort out the affairs. Leave for the United States. These few pages taken from a notebook, these telegrams, constitute a snapshot of a pivotal moment in Breton’s life, in that winter of 1941 when he impatiently awaited being allowed finally to leave the south of France. Handwritten texts, undated [mid-March 1941].
- 4 in-18 pages of a notebook of handwritten notes by Breton in green ink. One of the pages is headed ‘Oran’; here Breton anticipates various purchases to be made during the first stopover in Oran [on 28 March 1941], on the ship the Capitaine Paul Lemerle that carries him, along with his family, to the United States.
