Description
« Document » que ce texte manuscrit de la main d'André Breton composé de citations et adressé à Matta en 1942.
Destinées aux Prolégomènes à un troisième manifeste du surréalisme ou non (1942) ces notes sont en effet réutilisées à la fin du texte ; les citations de Novalis, Duclaux et William James (une référence américaine, jusqu'alors peu présente chez Breton) sont réexploitées telles quelles. L'ensemble a semble-t-il été réuni pour Matta, partie prenante du projet de Troisième manifeste ; le manuscrit est reproduit p. 1138 du volume III de la Pléiade. [site Atelier André Breton, 2005]

- Vivent dans les placards, 1 page in-4° manuscrite par Breton à l'encre verte, titrée au crayon noir. Ébauche du texte « Les Grands Transparents » qui commence par trois citations de William James, Émile Duclaux, ancien directeur de l'Institut Pasteur (1840-1904) et Novalis (« Les Grands Transparents », La Pléiade, Tome III, pages 14 et 15) :
« Nous vivons en réalité dans un animal dont nous sommes les parasites. La constitution de cet animal détermine la nôtre, et vice-versa. »
Breton poursuit :
« ou bien les êtres dont il s'agit pourraient ne pas tomber sous nos sens, exister sur un plan ou ni la vue, ni l'ouïe, ni le toucher, etc., ne nous donne accès, ou bien même ils pourraient être conçus comme des animaux mimétiques supérieurs (consulter la "Théorie de la Forme", d'après laquelle si des personnages dissymétriques étaient séparés par des intervalles symétriques, ce sont ces intervalles qui s'imposeraient à l'attention, qui prendraient une valeur de pleins). »
