The title of this poem, ‘Run Them All’ - written on 29 October 1938 and dedicated to Diego Rivera, the painter who had welcomed Breton to Mexico in the spring - is in fact the title of a drawing by Matta. As a note in volume II of the Pléiade collected works explains, the autograph manuscript of the poem, a typed version of which we have here, complements Matta's drawing to form a work in its own right, which can be seen in the catalogue of the 1991 exhibition, André Breton, Convulsive Beauty.
