Author Joseph Delteil

Description

Manuscript of two automatic texts by Joseph Delteil, which can be dated 1924. "But don’t tell me…”; so ends the first of Delteil's two automatic texts, which can safely be dated to 1924. His novel Choléra, the scandalous verve of which was noted by Breton, enabled him to join the Surrealist group in 1923. He is included with the surrealists arranged in homage around a police photograph of Germaine Berton (the anarchist who murdered one of the far-right Camelots du Roi), and we know that he participated in various meetings. Excluded as early as 1925 (see La Révolution surréaliste, no. 4), Delteil soon moved away from the misguided ways of his youth in order to celebrate Joan of Arc and, as a consequence, to be celebrated in turn by Claudel. [Atelier André Breton website, 2005] Autograph manuscript, 1924 - Eight-page exercise book, handwritten in red ink: "Colombin Colombine, books, stationery, leather goods, 82 Boulevard de la gnolle Paris. Monsieur Colombin said to Madame Colombine: you have a charming beard, Madame... she was beautiful and petite with a nose as wide as her thighs, although her face was quite different. Her mouth was as green as a parrot's, which wholly explains why she was so indolent." Breton wrote Delteil's name on the cover of the exercise book. (Cover detached). [Auction Catalogue, 2003]
