Description
Portrait photomaton de Marcel Duhamel réalisé c. 1929 pour encadrer le tableau de Magritte Je ne vois pas la femme cachée dans la forêt.
Photographie faisant partie des photomatons utilisés par André Breton pour encadrer le tableau de Magritte Je ne vois pas la femme cachée dans la forêt reproduit dans La Révolution surréaliste n°12 du 15 décembre 1929. Est représenté : Marcel Duhamel.
La première cabine est installée à Paris en décembre 1928 dans le hall du journal L’Intransigeant. Dès l’année suivante, on en trouve d’autres : dans le hall du Petit-Journal, aux Galeries Lafayette, Chez Sam’s, un restaurant franco-anglo-saxon du 26 boulevard des Italiens mais aussi à Luna Park, porte Maillot. C’est sans doute là que le groupe surréaliste entame plusieurs séries de photomaton. Les premiers sont reproduits dans La Révolution surréaliste, en décembre 1929.
Il en existe plusieurs séries que l’on peut noter aux tenues variées des protagonistes qui changent selon les saisons : si certains n’ont posé qu’une seule fois (Fourrier, Bunuel, Mégret, Magritte, Jean Aurenche, Unik, Nougé, Goemans, Dali, Alexandre, Valentin, Gazelle et Marcel Duhamel, Simone Prévert, Jeannette Tanguy, Morise ou Caupenne) ; d’autres à peine deux fois avec ou sans chapeau (Boiffard, Tanguy, Queneau, Pierre Prévert, Mesens, Unik, Aagon) ; nous voyons au moins 3 passages en cabine pour Breton, Ernst, Eluard, Marie-Berthe Aurenche et Jacques Prévert) ; quant à Suzanne Muzard, elle arbore pas moins de huit ensembles différents – que ce soit robe, veste ou chapeau…

Prise à Luna-Park (des photomaton automatiques étaient installés sur certains stands de tirs ou d’autres attractions), peut-être en février 1930
Dans une lettre de Paul Éluard à Gala du début février 1930, juste après la parution du Cadavre, il écrit : « Breton est fatigué, démoralisé (Suzanne [Musard] est malade et nerveuse…). Hier soir, j’ai réussi à l’emmener à Luna-Park. Il y avait 2 ans qu’il n’était pas sorti ainsi. Nous sommes restés une heure dans les autos électriques qui se cognent. Il était ravi, reposé. » [Lettres à Gala, Gallimard, 1984, p. 97]
