Manuscript fragments from the 1952 radio interviews with André Parinaud, Entretiens. Interview XIV.
A few fragments of the 1952 Entretiens radiophoniques with André Parinaud, elements of which are dispersed throughout Breton’s archive of papers. Here, the meeting with Trotsky (Interview XIV), the threat of the recuperation of surrealism and its cultural domain by Christian thought (Interview XV) are broached in manuscript form, differing slightly from the version published by Gallimard and reprinted in volume 3 of the Œuvres complètes. [Atelier André Breton website, 2005]
Handwritten manuscripts, undated [1952].
- 1/4 in-4° page of an incomplete text, with deletions and corrections relating to the tract ‘For an Independent Revolutionary Art’: ‘Even if for tactical reasons Trotsky may have wished his name to be replaced with Diego Rivera’s for the published version, the latter did not contribute to its writing.’ (‘Entretiens 1913-1952’, La Pléiade, volume III, page 551, Entretiens radiophoniques, XIV) [Auction catalogue, 2003].

- 4 pages in-4°, printed in black ink, signed and dated Mexico, July 25, 1938:
“It can be claimed without exaggeration that human civilization has never been threatened with so many dangers as it is today. The vandals, using their barbaric, that is to say very precarious, means, destroyed ancient civilization in a limited corner of Europe. Currently, it is the entire world civilization, in the unity of its historical destiny, which is tottering under the threat of reactionary forces armed with all modern technology. We are not only looking at the approaching war. From now on, in times of peace, the situation of science and art has become absolutely intolerable. » [André Breton website, 2023]
