André Breton's handwritten notebook, dated from Autumn 1923 to June 1924. Fragments published in Littérature, drafts of ideas for the Manifesto of Surrealism, etc.

Was this notebook by Breton, dated 1922-1924, unpublished? Yes and no. No, because it was published at the time of Littérature (in the thirteenth and final issue of the New Series), before being included in the Alentours II of the first volume of the Oeuvres complètes. Yes, because the published versions, including the one in the Oeuvres which gives back the fragments left aside during the publication in review, in fact hide a whole layout which was not conceived as a text, and can thus be really understood only when reproduced photographically, even if only for its drawings... 48 pages in-12 (13.5 x 9 cm) in black pencil in Breton's hand with handwritten erasures and corrections and a few drawings in a black hardcover notebook. Note from Breton on the title page: ‘Belongs to André Breton, 42 rue Fontaine (9) for reward!
This notebook appeared in fragments in Littérature and covers a period from the Autumn of 1923 to the end of June 1924. The contents are very heterogeneous: reflections, titles, addresses, elements of automatic texts, the first draft of ideas that will be developed in the Manifesto of Surrealism.
