Description

Original drawing in black pencil signed by Nadja with handwritten text on the back, dating from 1926.

Original drawing signed, sd [1926].

Original drawing in black pencil signed by Nadja containing autograph texts: "The Enchantment of Nadja," "The Human Reflector, it’s the Soul of Lovers," "You must be very worried at this moment? Find the time to write a few words to your Nadja." (20 x 24 cm).

Andre Breton clarifies in the edition of Nadja from 1928: "Nadja invented for me a wonderful flower: "The Flower of Lovers." It was during the course of a luncheon in the country that this flower appeared to her and I saw her trying to replicate it with great struggle. She came back to it several times in order improve the drawing and to give the two sets of eyes different expressions. It’s essentially under this sign that we can situate the time that we spent together, and it remains the graphic symbol which gave Nadja the key to all the others. On the back of the figure drawing, we find a handwritten poem done in pencil in the middle of the page signed by Nadja: “To André, towards other horizons, and towards other lights.” Exceptional document. (Reproduced in the original edition of Nadja, Gallimard, 1928). [Auction catalgue, 2003]
