1924. Here we find the draft of a text that was published, in revised form and along with two other ’Dreams’, in the first issue of La Révolution surréaliste, December 1924. In focusing upon dream transcriptions, Breton isn’t just prepared to explore a new genre, or an unknown human dimension: he aims to leave behind the narrow field of literature, with the surrealism that was at this moment establishing its principles being defined less as a literary school than as a method and a praxis. As a research method, here the dream transcription relates to a Freudian lineage, but it is offered in its raw state, without any commentary that might explain it. In-8° school notebook containing a handwritten text titled: ‘Dreams’ (2 in-8° pages in ink).
‘A gathering at my home. Picasso on the sofa at the back but transmuted. He answers questions with difficulty; he draws absentmindedly in a notebook, each page includes a few quick marks and the huge notation of the price it costs: 150 fr... Apollinaire’s shadow is there, and that’s what coaxes me outside.’
