Signed handwritten manuscript, 11th May 1950.
- 2 1/4 in-4° manuscript pages in green ink, numbered in red pencil, titled, dated and signed by André Breton:
‘In his fine study "Les Masques", Georges Buraud has been the first to reveal the deep sense of need that, at all times and everywhere, has led man to hide his face behind a sculpted mask resembling an animal, representing an ancestor or conceived as a representation of a deity …  That which remains unexplained or fateful in this world comes together in this vibrant packet of instincts that the primitive individual carries around with him and that enhances him still further in communicating to him an unknown depth.”
Deletions and corrections. [Auction catalogue, 2003]
