Description

Manuscript that would be published in Médium (Informations surréalistes) in February 1953.

Published anonymously under the title ‘Et le grillon s'endormi’ (And the cricket had fallen asleep), this note by Breton appeared in Médium (Informations surréalistes) in February 1953. It is devoted to the Czech painter Jindrich Heisler, who was buried in Pantin on 6 January: partly biographical, partly lyrical, it recalls the active part the artist had played in the surrealist movement since his arrival in Paris half a dozen years earlier. The evocation of a letter from Robert Benyaoun confirms one of the functions of the review: to ensure the circulation of information, to give some the news of others, to communicate. - 1 page in-4° handwritten in ink, relating to the death of Jindrich Heisler:
" ‘Black is not so black’ says one, and the other speaks of those deaths that should not be mourned for the simple reason that they ‘never have anything in common with pain.’ But the vanity of these words in the face of Heisler's departure. That January 6, around 3 a.m., in the cemetery of Pantin buried under the snow, evading even the very idea of a sun, other than a stabbed heart.”
