Author Louis Aragon

Description

Three pages of autograph notebook by Louis Aragon dated 1924, unsigned. The anonymous author of these three sheets of automatic writing may well be Aragon, their handwriting being so similar. However, in its spirit as much as in its clumsiness, the automatism is quite far from the elegant and superbly mastered manner of the young author of the La Défense de l'infini [The Defence of the Infinite]. The text presented here retains a unity of narrative, particularly around the motif of the mantilla. The abandonment to images is not fully made... [André Breton Workshop website, 2005] Autograph manuscript, 1924 - 8° school exercise book with handwritten text in red ink on the first three pages: "The blue lines served as rails for the diamond wagons that hurtled down the mantilla’s black slopes. A dense shadow, which at first sight might have been compared to the shape of a St Andrew's Cross, swirled over the countryside, revealing a fight between vultures in the sky.” [Auction Catalogue, 2003]

Lionel Follet, consulté, confirme que le manuscrit est bien d'Aragon, comme l'avaient indiqué les experts lors de la vente de 2003.-
