Description
Stylized statue of a deceased ancestor, topped by a complex openwork coiffe forming a heraldic crest. A geometric pattern, highlighted in clay, is engraved in the limbs and the crest.
The sophisticated art of Mimika, which uses concave and negative space to represent the volume of bodies and forms, was a favorite of the Surrealists and especially of André Breton. He saw a strong connection between the poetic genius of Oceanic art and the poetic concept of Surrealism.
