Author Max Morise

Description

Exercise book of four pages of collages and an automatic text by Max Morise dated spring 1924. Collages and an automatic text by Max Morise, who in the Spring of 1924, like his comrades, participated fully in the activities of a group deploying its creative drive in all directions. When examining these collages, one has a very precise feeling of history, with certain elements, such as the lily of the valley or the mention of the first of May, pointing without any doubt to the date of their creation being May 1924, a time when this particular ‘surrealist game’ of collage was developed. Revolution is also in the air, as the presence of this word in one of the collages attests, a few months before the launch of La Révolution surréaliste. [Atelier André Breton website, 2005] Autograph manuscript, 1924 Exercise book in-8° comprising four automatic texts collaged from press clippings and a handwritten text (1 page in-8°). "The scandal horses are getting ready, blood is preparing for disasters from the East, the return of morning to a prison of yesterday and today." Max Morise wrote his name on the cover of the exercise book. (Cover detached). [Auction Catalogue, 2003]
